The Little Things #3

Creek or Culvert

This is a question that looms in the air when I visit my family. I grew up in San Jose, it can be a urban environment but it also has some nice suburbs. The house I grew up in had a great backyard, tons of trees, great space especially for where we lived and we had a creek just on the other side of our back fence. We would play in the creek as often as we could get away with it. When the apples on our tree were ready for picking we would use them as baseballs and hit them over the fence, or if we needed to get rid of incriminating evidence we would dispose of it in the creek...the creek was always a fun place to hang....this was until Seth came in the picture....he comes and starts to hang out with us and my sister and I start to talk about doing something in the 'creek' and Seth wants to know which 'creek'..."well the one behind the house, derh." Seth of course begins to laugh and goes on to tell me that it is not a creek but a culvert. WHAT! I have no idea what you are talking about, that's a creek....water runs through it like 4 times a year...other than that it's a man made cement creek bed...oh wait. So then I continue to argue the point because for the last 2+ decades my entire family has been calling it a creek. Then Seth asks my father "What's that behind the house?" my Dad's response "What the culvert, or drainage ditch." WHAT! My dad has NEVER IN HIS LIFE called it that, and all of a sudden he changes on me. Well fine Seth 1 point - Eugie and the rest of my family excluding my dad 0 Points.
How can you call this a culvert...this is such a creek...look at the charm...a bonus feature I didn't mention before is under the freeway you can mess around with the homeless peoples stuff...now if that isn't the perfect making for wholesome childhood memories I don't know what is.

The Little Things #2

This one is something Seth does for me every morning and it means a lot. When Seth has to go to work before the normal time I wake up, he picks out his clothes the night before and puts them in the bathroom, so when he does wake up he can sneak out of the room with out waking me up. This to me is so considerate and thoughtful. If it were me...I would be turning on lights throwing clothes around...and whimpering that I had to wake up early...(actually it used to be me, and that is exactly how the mornings were) so I'm a jerk. I try to be considerate, but I am a poor planner. ...oh my goodness I am trying to think of something I do for Seth just because I am considerate....I can't think of one thing. I am a huge jerk...haha...the worst part is I am beginning to think about all the things Seth does for me to be nice and his list is getting longer and longer...like when we bike, he gets my water bottles, pumps up my tires, my bike is always clean and tuned up, he always takes out the trash...even insists, he fills up the cars with gas when he knows I am driving them next (he knows I don't plan for the extra time to fill up), he always saves me the red gummi bears because he knows those are my favorite, and when I am I bummed out he will get me some sweet treat from the market...he knows I love food, and I never have to put my bike on or off the trainer, oh my goodness this is just the stuff off the top of my head. Wow...I am going to have to step up my game.

The Little Things #1

I am going to start a new blog series. I am calling it 'The Little Things' these are the things I think about, but don't think enough about to actually dedicate an entire post with my rants. I have these feather ideas...but I could maybe get a paragraph out of each one of them...if I tried to expand further my humor tends to become hostile.

What got this whole thing started was my love of a KING BED. That's right...I love king size beds...they are the best...when you want to snuggle with your love it's perfect, but when you want to be alone and just sleep, you can just sneak away and they can never find you. In the summer time they are even better because I love cold sheets and if you lay in the bed just right you can move continuously through out the night and always find cool sheet making you dreams that much sweeter. Sometimes if the kids need to sleep in the bed with you there's always plenty room for them and you. It's a bed that make dreams possible....no wait...they turn dreams into a reality...oh wait...I'm not sure which dream sleep pun I want to use...there is one problem; I have a queen and my Honey does not want a king size bed ever...he complains that he can never find me. Go fig.

Spring Mountain Biking Trip

This last weekend we went camping and mountain biking in Moab which was awesome! It was Fisher's first trip to Moab, he loved it. He went with his parents and his uncle Skillz, and our friends Betsy and Jory. Anyway it's late and I don't want to go into crazy amounts of details over the trip...but here are some pictures. We did lots of riding, had a great time met up with our long lost friends Ivy and Kitty.

Jory near the end of Porcupine

The official pose

On the first day we had a slew of mechanical and bike problems...as a group we had FIVE flat tires...and 2 broken chains...Skillz broke his chain a mile or so from the finished...so he just ran the rest of the way.

St. George to Snow Shoeing pictures

Kiowa puppy is always watching out for other dogs.
Fish seriously is the sweetest little baby.
He loves snowshoeing.
This was taken before he got a face full of snow.

I'm hard at work, cooking dinner and trying to pack and clean all at the same time...but Fisher is cool and calm...just look at that face...nothing is bugging him.

Two weeks ago we were in St. George to do the early spring century...here is a picture that was taken as soon as I finished...seriously...just hopped off the bike and took off the helmet...Say cheese, try not to look like death even though you may feel that way....good times.

February...not so bad

Last February was the worst! The ONLY saving grace was my sister and mom who came out to stay with me for 3 weeks. If it wasn't for them I don't know if I could have made it...it snowed almost everyday, I got the death flu, I was pregnant and sick, and Seth was gone for the month doing a rotation. Like I said last February was the worst. However this February...not so bad. Actually I had a pretty good February. I was a first place winner at a mnt bike race*, then we were in California for two weeks hanging out with family, and riding our bikes almost everyday, then we went to St. George to do our season opener century ride...(actually due to poor planning the century was actually 110 miles, yeah you don't plan a century in late winter and add 10 miles...those last miles were the worst!) To top it all off by the end of February Fisher has been sleeping so much better in his own bed...and he has cut 3 teeth in the last week and has been so good about it. Oh and I forgot to mention that February was super awesome because Seth matched to a residency in Pennsylvania, so we are moving this summer. February...I was dreading it, but it wasn't that bad...actually it was really nice.Seth and Fisher at the Tour of California Fishers Second Professional Bike Race

Miguels in San DiegoEugie Riding Mnt. Palamar
Check out Lance Armstrong in second biker back on the left...he and I totally locked eyes forever! Yeah we totally had a moment.

*First Place Winner, becasue no one really showed up in my division. You know what they say ' The World is ruled by those who show up.'
